This is a great idea, connecting those passionate about their location with interested travelers. I wonder what the screening process is for the tour guides?

The thinking behind it makes a lot of sense - time and time again our research finds that visitors (in our case to Scotland) are looking for an authentic, privileged experience whereby they can engage with locals and partake in music, gatherings etc as welcome guests not as tourists.
We've also found that (unsurprisingly) already knowing someone in the country increases propensity to travel in the short and medium term.
A site whereby people can essential matchmake and form connections prior to a visit could be very valuable to the consumer. I found the ads on this site a little confusing and wasn't completely convinved I could trust it yet, but I think the idea is sound.
I also suspect there are strong opportunities for interest niches - where exact destination in secondary to participation in an interest the visitor is passionate about. We see this in Scotland for things like piping, clans and traditional music and I am sure there are many more where a like minded expert/guide would add value.
The fact that it already happens informally on the ground in destination means there must be an opportunity for technology to enhance it and bring it forward in the travel planning process - Shetland for example has a selection of informal individuals that the tourist office will match people up with according to interests (geology experts, fiddling experts etc). If they could maximise this online, and earlier in the decision process, I think it would really enhance their product.
Sorry for this long blather of a comment, but its something I'm very interested in as I think it will play an important part in uplifting the allround customer experience.

Very interesting and beautiful destinations which provides us an opportunity to have one on one with our real culture and natural and man made beauty. It surely plays an important part in the economy of the country.
